Thanks... I still have some hopes. Basically, he does not do well outside the house but he improves drastically at home, so the vet can't see his usual mannerisms to really ascertain what his emotional state is. And seeing as once we were home he begged for treats, danced around my ankles nose-bonking me, and just spent some time throwing his jingle ball around, we are definitely not in euthanasia territory yet.

And yeah, I am not even so much into the color scheme, but I got a Heracross in a trade a couple years ago and it kind of kicks butt - so even if I don't get a shiny one, maybe I'll get one with better stats that will kick MORE butt, and if nothing else I'll get candy to buff the one I've got. ;)

Yeah, I can imagine it would be hard to get a bunny comfortable enough on a vet visit to not act scared.

Even at home in my house in his usual room he hides if someone other than me is in the house - he's just really shy. So "abandoning him" to a bunch of strangers in a strange place, after the weird motion of a motor vehicle while he's already dizzy and disoriented? It's no wonder he kept panicking and they had to sedate him to do bloodwork because he was freaking out and flailing around blindly and couldn't get to his feet.

I mean fortunately the vet didn't try too hard to convince me, but I think she was skeptical that "he's not really as bad off as he may seem". It's not like I haven't been mentally preparing for possibly losing him soon for the last couple weeks, and I guess it's good to have that conversation ahead of time, just... it's definitely ahead of time.

Would it be possible to record his at-home behavior on your cell phone and show the vet?

I had been thinking about that, but since the vet is doing curbside service (one of their staff tested positive sometime between the initial visit and the two-week recheck, I'm very glad I did curbside then too) I never actually come in contact with the vet. We were discussing options via phone while I was walking along a forest trail in a park down the road from the clinic, in fact. I could email a file attachment - I did this with some photos after the initial appointment - but videos are sort of large. Unless I uploaded to YouTube and dropped a link, maybe.

But I'm likely to take some video one way or another because it's so darned cute with him throwing his ball around and jingling it even with his head turned, and the impressive speed he can manage zooming around a familiar area. And the way he sinks into the floor and closes his eyes and toothpurrs contentedly just as he always has when I pet his head just the way he likes. And if it does wind up I won't have him with me much longer, I'll want to have these things to look back on later. I've already taken some pics of his very contented post-dinner sploots. ;)
