I love the costumes, sets and also the characters...except Phryne. I don't HATE her. I just don't love her. The show (it original books??) seems far too invested in making her ~not like other girls~ that they forgot to actually write a character.

She's a condensed version of the 1920s flappers who rejected all social norms for women and had a roaring old time. These people existed and 'not like other girls' was their whole subculture. They didn't want to be timid and well behaved, they wanted to fly planes, box, sleep around, smoke. Phryne is based on them.

I absolutely hated book Phryne but I love show Phryne because even if she's not like other girls she's compassionate and empathetic.
