If they were brakechecking you constantly, then that means they were in front of you the whole time.

So no, you don't call the cops on them because the cops are just going to tell you to quit following them.

You know what they meant, so don't be a pedantic ass. And it's pretty clear they weren't behind this driver by choice, so saying anon was following them is dumb. Brake checking is illegal. And just because some cops and insurance companies blame victims by assuming they weren't leaving enough room between them and the brake checker, that doesn't mean anything.

In the future, if someone won’t stop brake checking you, either pull over/ change lanes and let the car behind you deal with it, or turn at your next opportunity if you feel that this person is going to follow you to the next lane, also pull over do they can get back in front of you specifically, or whatever. If you can’t do any of that then traffic is generally moving too slowly for you to really be in danger as long as you aren’t right on the other car’s ass. Yes, the car in front of you is the asshole but *every* insurance company and police officer is going to assume the person in the back is at fault unless dude in front throws his car in reverse. So calling the cops is pointless unless you want to be told to take a defensive driving class and probably get put on the nuisance call list.

I'm not saying AYRT should actually call the cops about this. You're completely correct in all the ways they wouldn't be useful in this situation, or any like it. And I've been in the shitty position of my brakes malfunctioning while I was coming to a stop in traffic, causing me to lose control well before I was even close to the car in front of me, and rear end them. Even though it wasn't too bad for either car damage wise, and I'm the only one that sustained an injury, I was still treated like dirt by the cop. Even after examining my brakes, and finding out they were broken, the tone did not change. Because you are right that the car in front will always have the benefit of the doubt over the car in back.

I just don't think you should have phrased your initial comment to AYRT so callously, when they put this in a thread of recent scary events. It's fine advice otherwise to tell them not to call the cops. And your second comment is also full of good advice.
