I disagree on your first point, I do agree on the second as that is the "critical eye" I was talking about.

When asked about if they ever think their shows were going to be broadcast or sold in America, most production studios said such a thought never crossed their minds. 90% of profit made by the Anime industry is generated in Japan. Just listen to the Staff Commentary from FLCL or Eureka Seven or even the ultra-popular Ghibli movies; when they talk about cultural references and how the directors never considered the possibility of their product becoming international.

I actually believe that the best products of Anime and Manga are those that are intrinsically Japanese; like MindGame or Mononoke.

I think those staff commentaries may say more about perception than reality, as they aren't the ones who have to worry about international licensing and distribution. Also, speaking more generally, there seems to be a larger, deep-rooted perception of Japan as an isolated, self-contained society that has been seriously out of date for decades.

It'll be interesting to see how things continue to change over time!

The staff are those that make the anime. People that worry about international licensing or distribution have no say over content.

As the market for anime and manga expands in the west, and the new audience's response grows correspondingly, the people in charge over in Japan will eventually have to sit up and notice. It will come to a point where to not do would be bad business. Globalism is a beautiful thing like that. And criticizing the negative aspects will help speed that along. A handwaving argument like yours doesn't take into account the reality of this industry's potential for growth.
