There's nothing wrong with that!!

I still remember being part of a message-board based role-playing group years and years ago. There was definitely a cult of personality going on under the board owner and how she favored some of the other players. It got to the point there was alot of bullying and gaslighting going on. But it was such a frog-in-pot situation that you didn't realize how bad it actually was. Especially if you were on the fringes like me because I couldn't devote tons of time to the board.

And what I remember the most is this point system that was part of the board. You could give a kudos basically or subtract from another person (and basically it was weaponized by the favored to pit the rest of us against each other in trying to have clout to 'be one of them'). No one would ever take away from the favorites or owner for fear of being targeted.

Anyway; what I remember is the owner making a big deal with trying to come up with a name for a new character and inviting others for help. They had this complex theme naming system going on with their other characters and wanted to keep it going but couldn't think up a new name. I made some suggestion that I thought was pretty clever and just got blasted for it. Then dogpiled by their followers.

Totally pissed me off so I took a point from them before logging off for the night. Well apparently that was the pebble needed --- I come back on the next day and it turned out the owner's cred (as well as some of the more vicious bullies) were all in the zeros. They were crying over these points and wanting to know who was being so mean.

I never said a word but I did end up using the chaos as a reason to leave the group. A friend I made there later told me how it went downhill after that and many people left the group. I still get an urge to grin when I think about it years later.
