Schedules should be more flexible so that those of us who work better late in the day can start our days later and work later and those who are morning people can start earlier and go home earlier.

Absolutely. It obviously varies, but there are many jobs where the work can be done at any time or is actually unsuited to a 9-to-5 schedule.

My personal experience was working as a community mental health counselor. I was supposed to show up to the office at 9am, but absolutely none of my clients wanted to meet that early. So I would just sit around at the office, making up work to do, until around 11am when my clients actually woke up and were ready to meet. Eventually we convinced the supervisors to let us have more flexibility in our hours and everyone was happier about it, since I could also see more afternoon clients.
