Sure. It's all about kayfabe and who's in on the joke. Stephen Colbert trolled professionally his entire time on The Daily Show and the Colbert Report, and some of that shit was amazing. However, even if that's what a troll is going for, 99% of them don't get there because it's harder than it looks. Also, that's not the type of troll we usually get around here.

I almost mentioned Colbert. He was sort of on the line between satire and trolling for much of that, I'd say, but then there was that WH correspondent's dinner. Man, I love that guy. :D

AYRT - I think you could argue that Colbert started out as satire, but moved into (and embraced) trolling once he realized how close his satire was to certain views of reality.

That's definitely fair. I think at the time The Colbert Report was still airing, *I* wasn't aware of just how insane certain factions had gotten; I appreciate him all the much more in hindsight because he really was dead-on, and I had no idea.
