That's true. I think people just want a clarification on what OP meant, because there's clearly a typo or something that's making it difficult to understand. I'm having trouble parsing it too, but I'm willing to give OP the benefit of the doubt.

But yeah. Can confirm that shipping is seen as weird by most non-fandom people. Even to some fandom people, actually. My sister is really into RWBY, and every time me or someone else mentions a ship, she's weirded out by the practice. Het shipping included.

I thought this was a complaint about the fringe but loud comment that "If you don't ship my ship you're homophobic!" But I am coming at it with my own bias (I have never heard of the property mentioned in the secret, much less am I familiar with its fandom). I saw a lot of that in Star Wars and as a chronic Multi Shipper and certified Fandom Old I just can't make myself care, but I can imagine someone worrying about themselves after hearing that messaging.
But yeah, comparing out-fandom views of shipping to in-fandom views of shipping are just not something you can do.
