I didn't notice until P4 though, mostly during Yosuke, Nanako and Dojima's social links. It's like. They open their heats to you, and you're just using them for power? What a dick.

I AM GLAD IT'S NOT JUST ME, THEN. It took me a while to notice too, but now that I have I almost feel bad about ranking up my S.Links -- not enough not to do it, of course, but yeah, it seems manipulative and dickish.

Heh, I agree, but I feel that I should point out that...

THAT WAS HOW I WANTED TO PLAY THE CHARACTER.

I had an insane amount of fun playing a manipulative DICK in that game. It was great! ^^ I absoutely hated Fuka and Yuko, but I dated and bedded them anyway. I intentionally passed up more powerful social links to make sure I maxed every girl in the game. I was actually disappointed that I didn't get to have G-rated sex with my teacher after maxing Hermit.

I think it's because I'm normally a caring, emotional person in real life - it was lots of fun to play an absolutely manipulative asshole. ^^

Seconding, about Minato, anyway. Souji doesn't seem to be manipulating people as much as Minato was, and I partially attribute this to the fact that Souji cares about his family whether or not you max out their social links, and his narration scolds you if you attempt to date more than one girl, whereas for Minato, he didn't seem to care how many women he screwed and then ignored for the rest of the game. :|

Souji seems nicer to me, too, but the fandom seems to hate him a lot more. XD There's a number of requests/fills on the kink meme tailored specifically to play to his jackassery and 'lolol I'm dating all the girls'.
