What movies have the worst lessons/?

Or shows/games.

Any romcom that involves disrupting or stopping a wedding.

Right? Like "I have to confess my feelings at the last possible moment." That's incredibly selfish and unromantic in real life.

Most romcoms in general tbh

THIS. Especially "stalking is ultra-romantic and will be rewarded". Love Actually, I'm looking at you.

It's not a bad message, but I watched "Sneakers" the other week and (spoilers for a 30 year old movie) the big bad wants to hack into and crack open the financial system.

And. Like. Good for him?

I'm not feeling very protective of the status quo right now so a ton of movies don't land like they were intended to.

FYI the people who suffer most from disruptions of the financial system are never those at the top.

Yeah yeah yeah when banks fail it is seldom bankers who starve, point is I'm not fantasizing about upholding our current system and I don't consider defending it particularly heroic.

SA

Actually no. All we've heard for 30 years is that any change or improvement would be Bad Actually. Raise the minimum wage? You'd lose hours. Healthcare for everyone? It would cost you too much. Raise safety standards? You'll get fired or your company will ho under. Paid maternity leave? No one will hire women. And now we're here and we need the kind of *drastic* villains used to fight for because we've had no good changes for so long.

There's your bad message. Change is bad and trying to improve things is worse.

the Final Destination movies? I mean really, "never save anybody's life, they'll just die in some nastier way a little later"?

I didn't really think about it at the time but the Little House on the Prairie TV show had some bizarre lessons. I was thinking about this one episode after reading the Gank Your Heart secret yesterday because there was an episode where a friend of Laura's hits his head and cannot see, but it doesn't last very long, except he pretends to be blind longer because his parents, who had been fighting, are getting along better in their worry for him, Laura figures it out, but instead of it all coming out, he hits his head again and doesn't remember anything since the first injury and he still has his sight, so everything is okay, I guess? And apparently, if you run away thinking that you are responsible for your baby brother's death, that mysterious stranger you meet on a mountain is an angel to guide you. And there are a few others like that. Also, at the end the series, they literally blow up the town.

The message of HTTYD3 seemed to be "No matter how many challenges you overcome or how much progress you make towards peace, ultimately bigots will always win so you should just give up and go hide in a hole forever," which is one of the reasons I hate it and consider it an insult to the rest of the series.

It was just so... defeatist.
Also the "growing up means accepting that romantic love and marriage is inherently more important than platonic friendships, and in order to mature, you gotta understand to give up the friendships" implications...

Anything with a manic pixie dream girl (like Garden State, Elizabethtown, etc). The lesson is always become obsessed with this girl and her quirkiness will set you free.
