Heh, I have the opposite problem as you, OP: all my fandoms have majority het shippers, and this describes them down to a tee.

Which isn't to say slashers and femslashers don't have the exact same problem too, of course -- in slash-majority fandoms the exact same thing is true in reverse.

But my fannish circles definitely trend more to throwing the "OMG bestest best friends" thing at every M/M and F/F combo, while simultaneously screaming "it's canon" and "meant to be" at the first M/F pair who share more than a single scene for three seconds.

I mean, Hermione being Black has some basis in Cursed Child canon, at least.

But other than that, hard agree. Still have no idea where the hell the Indian!Harry fanon came from, but it's so rife now you're practically burned at the stake if you don't explicitly describe him that way.

As someone who ships two porn actors, I get it OP. There’s no social media involvement or anything like that with my ship but sometimes the porn itself transcends the genre and you feel the chemistry more than anything. I’m sorry they fell out and hope you can still enjoy the work they did together.
