My above comment explains why I don't want to name the fandom, but the turned character didn't become an antagonist by "joining the enemy faction" because there was no enemy faction to join. So art wouldn't need to include them plus all their new bad guy allies or anything like that, as they had no new allies. They just had a mixture of outside influences and personal issues that resulted in them getting a worse outlook on life, and doing some extremely bad things on their own and destroying their relationship with their friends. During the majority of canon they were friends, though, so what I meant was that it would be easy in my opinion to depict them the way they were at most points in canon.
