i haven't rewatched it, but i would suspect you're just picking up on the stuff that was already there. it's easy to get swept up in a show and handwave the details while it is running and there is drama and plot and what will happen next.

I rewatched it last year with my husband. It was his first watch.

He enjoyed it at first but he hated Barney. I said he got better. Towards the middle he enjoyed it but didn’t really see Barney and Robin together and wanted Ted with her. But towards the end he was dragging his feet on wanting to watch it. Citing everyone is awful except for Marshall.

He wasn’t a fan of the last few seasons and I vaguely hinted that we didn’t have to watch the last two episodes. We finally did and he was mad. A few days later he said, “I think you just wanted me to watch it with you so I could be mad too.” :)

I explained some of the behind the scenes issues during the show and he said he could see it declining because of it. I think they should have done more with Ted but it is what it is.
