TAKE HUGH FOR EXAMPLE. I was really worried when House first became popular because it seemed there were tons of people ignorant to Laurie's roots, and that was just depressing. But I've known people who sought out his earlier career stuff and loved it better.

Ohmygod, this is so, so true. I'm so annoyed by people who want to ~preserve their fandom~ from the ~evil movie fanbrats~. MOVIES ARE THE GATEWAY DRUG, exemplified by my ginormous crush on Billy Crudup making me finally read Watchmen and loving it beyond what I'd expected :D

Haaa, yeah. Stupid elitists. Nothing wrong with fresh blood in a fandom, even if they don't seek out the original material, and especially if the fandom's been small and/or stifled before the new interpretation.

lol this is what I hope will happen! But I know what the internet is like... :( the "OMG SHERLOCK HOLMES IS SO HAWT" will over rule the kids who do that +read the books. Damn internet.

Well, yeah, there are always going to be fanbrats whatever you do. But they fall away once the trend has lost its novelty and you typically get stuck with a vast majority of devoted fans, new and old.

It's especially silly for Sherlock Holmes, since I'm sure most of us probably saw a few Sherlock Holmes movies or parodies, like The Great Mouse Detective, before ever reading the original stories.

XD Seriously, though, I love Holmes and the original stories, but GMD was my gateway drug and I will love it forever and always and no one will ever make me change my mind and I want more pastiches and good fics and. Etcetera. :|b

No, but I'm almost certain I remember Holmes fighting SOMEONE in Big Ben during the cartoon when he was in the future. But I guess Big Ben sees a lot of action like that. It's like England's Statue of Liberty with all the heroes and villains getting in its business.
