It's one of those situations where people are unnecessarily rude (not you, OP), and people get rude back. Rinse and repeat, with added ill-feeling.

Can I... give a translated example?

Suppose I say: "I like X guyslash ship, it's just lovely."

Some fan: "Clearly you hate women."

Me: "What? No. I just said I liked a ship. What the fuck?"

That fan: "Oh, you're so sensitive. Why the pity party? You just love making yourself sound *oppressed* and *persecuted*."

Me: "What the fuck!?"

Do you... ah... see how that can rile a person up after a while? Does this example help?

It's not every shipper that's like that - far from it - but they sure do make a person cranky.
