A decade ago, people college-aged and older were the demographic most likely to have their own computers, unlimited internet access, etc. That's not really the case any longer.

The iPhone came out in 2006. The majority of Americans were regular users of social media by 2010. MySpace had come unto existence and died by 2010.

I think you're about five years off in your time line. The internet was absolutely widespread and not limited to college students in the 2010-2013 time period.
