103 - I don't understand what all the serious business in Capslock_zutara is nowadays. Really, I don't go there to bash Kataang, I go there for laughs. Capstara just isn't in it for the lulz anymore. I miss it....

138 - I kind of think you missed the point....

152 - From the sparkling to sucking the life out of women, you know he is.

I don't get it either. I used to like the comm when it was lulz and porn. Now it just seems like a bunch of bitter people who do nothing but bash. The show ended over 7 months ago.

A lot of people have been saying this, so there might be something I'm missing. If you would be so kind as to tell me what the point is, I would greatly appreciate it. Other than the fact that Batman is the Dark Knight of that movie, that he feels he must take difficult tasks on his shoulders which aren't likable to the populace, explain to me how this line isn't arguing that the people aren't up to the level that they can pull themselves out of the mire of absolute monarchy and into the realms of being as responsible as possible for their own actions. Also, the government must lie to us to protect us? Very foolish statement to say what with what got the US into Iraq so fresh in everyone's mind and with the US Patriot Act less than a double-term in office from being signed in. It just implies very bad things for democracy in general in the current situation.

I'm afraid I don't really understand your first point. I want to answer your question, but I really don't understand what your third sentence means. If you're saying that it's implying that people aren't capable of solving their own problems and bettering society themselves, maybe it is, if only in the sense that normal people can't fight the mob and terrorists. That's just the way it is. In Batman's case, the law was hindering the law enforcement. There were certain things they just couldn't do, so Batman existed outside the law in order to get things done. This kind of thinking is dangerous, if only because someone can go too far in the name of "justice," but that was another issue in the movie entirely that Batman struggled with. Batman was a vigilante, but he still stuck to a kind of moral code.

The way I saw it wasn't so much that it was the government lying to the population, but more of like he said, "sometimes the people's faith needs to be rewarded." In that case, they put their complete belief in someone, and this person fell. With Harvey Dent corrupted, countless criminals would be released onto the streets, and the spirits of the people of Gotham, after all they had been through, would be broken. Whether or not you think lying is wrong, sometimes the truth just isn't beneficial. It's not about the people not being able to handle it. At least, that's the way I see it, and I think that's what they meant. I didn't focus on the government half of the situation, maybe because it was Batman who first suggested the idea. I don't really know.

It doesn't mean that people are okay with the government lying to them, but Gotham's law enforcement lying about Harvey Dent isn't really comparable with the US government saying that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction to be justified in the eyes of the public to attack Iraq. In the Dark Knight, the truth could only cause pain, there was nothing good that could come out of it, while covering it up, though shady, would allow the public to have hope for a little bit longer as well as not destroy everything Harvey had worked for. I don't see how that even compares with the lies that caused the deaths of thousands of people in a war that the US population might not otherwise have supported.

Truthfully, I really haven't put much thought into the movie, but at the same time, now that you've pointed it out, I still don't see it that way. I don't think you're looking too deeply, it's just not the message I took away from it. I don't think they were intending that to be the message, nor do I think it was unintentionally conveyed. I just think you're seeing things from a different perspective.
