Fall used a pseud with little info attached and still got psychologically scarred by the dogpile deciding she couldn't possibly be a trans woman because no real trans woman would ever write what she did and that she was probably a Nazi because of her birth year. It was very clear that many people involved had not actually read the story in question. Others have had their identities interrogated and have felt they were forced to disclose private information about themselves to make the bullies back off and stop questioning their 'right' to write certain things. Just using a pseud isn't going to keep potential blowback away. Even if you can avoid completely social media, your publisher might well care, and you can't stop people from review-bombing.
