(Anonymous) 2021-09-02 06:01 am (UTC)(link)I find Treasure Planet and Atlantis both way more enjoyable than The Lion King. I find Treasure Planet just as moving emotionally if not more, and I find Atlantis more interesting and original even if it's also more inconsistent.
"Just a much worse movie" is not really a meaningful assessment. They have different strengths! I really hate this trend to treat people who have different taste as if they're pretending or fooling themselves. People don't have to have nostalgia goggles on, we can just have different taste from you!

(Anonymous) 2021-09-02 08:00 am (UTC)(link)The point I was making that these movies didn't necessarily flop just because they weren't amazing, but because they weren't marketable enough. I brought up Frozen because it outperformed every single Disney movie that came before it, and there's no way it's the best Disney movie ever made - but it's clearly the most marketable.
