I don't care about the Anti vs Proship since I left Twitter for good, but I think the reason people care so much about it is that normally fandom was supposed to be escapism from serious stressful real-world problems you mentioned but anti/pro discourse made what was supposed to be a hobby stressful.

Exactly, and the general understanding in fandom used to be that if you didn't like something? You didn't look at it or seek it out, simple as that. You stayed in your corner of the sandbox and they stayed in theirs and everyone was happy.
