See this shit? This is what I’m pushing back against when I talk about “antis.” It’s the idea that fiction has some kind of moral fucking obligation not to give people the wrong idea, as if people aren’t constantly getting the wrong idea no matter WHAT fiction does.

The problem isn't that the film exists or that the relationship in it is a bit eyebrow-raising. The problem is that real adult people in the real world (as in, not fandom folks) are acting like it is mindblowingly romantic and #goals and getting pissy if anyone notes that underage kids shouldn't actually be targeted sexually by grown ass adults. Shipping problematic ships is whatever. Problematic ships are whatever. Shipping and ~antis aren't the problem here. The problem is that no one wants to actually acknowledge that the relationship in the film would be unethical irl.

Yes. I'm very much a ship and lets ship and ykinmkatok person, but it's not the same as preaching that a relationship that would be unhealthy or straight up illegal/inethical in real life is romantic and great. As long as there's a clear line between what's ok in fiction versus what's ok in reality in your mind explore whatever ships/kinks/tropes you find interesting/titillating. As someone else pointed out in the thread, nuances matter. It's not black and white.

media does influence people... ask peter benchley... that fact does not contradict the stance that reading noncon makes you a rapist or reading age gaps makes you a pedophile.... please invite nuance into your life

SA ....does not contradict the stance that reading noncon does NOT make you a rapist... where is my brain.

Previous anon: sorry, I just saw that you were the one talking about nuances.

(Anonymous) 2021-09-12 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
That is not what they are talking about. It's the fact that this was touted as *the* romantic gay movie.
