Isn't that a little cynical? That's like telling someone who's only drawn for a few months and doesn't have a good sense of anatomy yet that you can't imagine them ever getting good enough. It takes practice, no one's going to be amazing at it right away. Or even sometimes for a long time.

Skeptical, I'd say. Perhaps if I'd seen significant improvement from chapter one to the final chapter, I could more easily imagine going pro. But becoming a good translator seems a little more complicated to me because it requires a certain amount of profiency in two languages.

Fan translator who has done some professional work here, and yes, it does. You can't be a good translator just by being fluent in both languages, you also have to have strong writing skills to be able to take a sentence from one language and make it sound natural in the other. It's a completely different skill from the actual translation part, but it's every bit as necessary if you want to be able to produce a translation that reads as though it were originally written in the target language.

Yes! It's more about writing here as in the translation part is easier if you're fluent in two (or more). In my country you study translation in the university.
