no yeah i get where you're coming from, that sounds irritating. with my brand of mental health issues my wish fulfillments involve me overcoming odds by my own strength, not because i've found a SO to mommy me. stories of people persevering even when they find themselves alone, when all hope is lost

it also feels more attainable than dreaming of the day i find someone who will deal with it for me :(

This is just SO specific

I assume these authors are in some specific corner of fandom, and they’re reading each other and deliberately mimicking each other.

na

Nah, I feel it. Good Omens is rife lately with fic where either Aziraphale or Crowley one is having some sort of panic attack over something. It's very 'mental health wish fulfillment.' Or where one of them (Crowley, usually) is managing chronic pain.

DA

Yeah, I've seen similar kinds of stories pop up from time to time in the "Criminal Minds" fandom, too, involving Reid having some sort of anxiety/panic attack or something of that sort and the team all being there to tend to him.

Yes. I liked the longfic where Crowley goes to therapy, but I think I read another one where he practices box breathing and... He's a fucking demon. He doesn't need to do breathing exercises to manage his mental health.

Excuse you, Crowley is a Complete Mess. All the demons are. It's kind of their thing.

Angsty H/C I get, but it's the scenario where the character can't handle their job and has a breakdown at work that seems oddly specific to me

It's a big hurt/comfort + wish fulfillment thing.

Hah. I've been trying to balance out my wish fulfillment mental health fantasies with trying to keep my characters away from needing to be babied too much. I don't write fics but perhaps still this secret called me out.

if you like supernatural fic OP, they were always pretty good about this, especially injured!dean fics because even in woobie!dean fics fandom tends to want the dynamic of sam and dean to remain with dean in the lead role.

I 100% get you anon. I'm out here looking for characters who persevere against the odds in angst, not ones where they're constantly the victim.

Fic about characters fighting back against dark stuff is where I learned how to manage my own demons as a teen and young adult. It worries me that all kids are getting from this shit is how to be a victim.
