no yeah i get where you're coming from, that sounds irritating. with my brand of mental health issues my wish fulfillments involve me overcoming odds by my own strength, not because i've found a SO to mommy me. stories of people persevering even when they find themselves alone, when all hope is lost

it also feels more attainable than dreaming of the day i find someone who will deal with it for me :(

if you like supernatural fic OP, they were always pretty good about this, especially injured!dean fics because even in woobie!dean fics fandom tends to want the dynamic of sam and dean to remain with dean in the lead role.

I 100% get you anon. I'm out here looking for characters who persevere against the odds in angst, not ones where they're constantly the victim.

Fic about characters fighting back against dark stuff is where I learned how to manage my own demons as a teen and young adult. It worries me that all kids are getting from this shit is how to be a victim.

And you know what's funny? It was totally on purpose, OP!, Michael Landon insisted on tight shirts and shirtless scenes and tight pants, allegedly going commando. I highly recommend Alison Angrim's (aka Nellie Olsen!) memoir, Confessions of a Prairie Bitch. TW: she talks about her childhood sexual abuse from her own brother, but if you're not triggered by that, her recall of the show is wonderful to read. She's a smart, funny woman who is way more awesome than I ever knew.

I don't hate the later books. I don't think they are terrible. But I've just always been more interested in Anne, Diana, Gilbert, Matthew, and Merilla than in any of Anne and Gilbert's children.

Hmm, as big as both Halloween and fic are on Tumblr/Twitter/etc., I would have thought the opposite to be true! Maybe try sorting through Halloween tags in the fandoms you're interested in and something you like might come up.
