Hmm, as big as both Halloween and fic are on Tumblr/Twitter/etc., I would have thought the opposite to be true! Maybe try sorting through Halloween tags in the fandoms you're interested in and something you like might come up.

I suspect that a lot of people like spooky Halloween, not horror Halloween

I agree, but you won't know for sure if you don't look!

I was a fairly popular writer in a fandom a while back, known mostly for writing a lot of ship fic for one particular pairing. I actually wanted to flex my muscles a bit and see how writing gen/horror for the season would feel, and I had a really great idea that I was so excited to write, but... I got the first chapter out and the reaction was so disappointing that it took all the wind out of my sails. Very very few hits, and of the few people that did read it, mostly just "so when is x/y getting together" or "isn't z getting too much screen time?" or "this isn't like the rest of your fic :("

So I guess the answer is, write that fic! But be unknown when you do it if you want any chance of people actually reading and enjoying it. :(

I keep trying to take up one of those prompt list and do as many as I can for Halloween or Christmas, but I never seem to get past the planning stage. I get so wrapped up in making notes for ideas inspired by the prompt list, that by the time I get round to writing a single fic the holiday season is far-over.

Yeah, I think you need to look for either fandom-specific or season-specific fests that happened during this time. Horror shows, mystery shows, and other spooky-type media with large fandoms tend to do this sort of them. I'm not going rec SPN again today lmao, but if that's something you like I KNOW they have holloween fic-fests

Oooooh man same. But I do understand that horror as a whole is pretty hard to write.
