103 It's very hard for me to befriend other women because so many of them are socialized to become, in my opinion, very limited as human beings (for example, to act "nice" all the time). I know it's not their fault that society expects women and men to behave certain ways, but it's irritating to be around such women (and I live in the South, where due to socially stratification gender roles appear to be even more rigidly enforced). I think that's why a lot of my close friends have been male... it's not like I hate women, it's just that I feel less like a woman than a human being, and men, due to male priviledge, don't have to deal with the same social limitations that women do.

I agree with you on the problem of misogyny in fandom and especially slash/yaoi fandoms. That is a major problem and I've never understood those sentiments within that whole community.

122 I disagree on the "shortened to little detriment" part. Movies are more than just characters and plots. Sometimes the cinematography is just as, if not more important than the other aspects of the film.

157 I had the same reaction to their relationship until very recently. I'm not sure why I'm okay with it now. I must have a huge incest squick that borders on the insane because I think it's gross to have a relationship with one of your in-laws, even if your spouse is already dead (and in this case, they weren't even married yet). Also Lee gets on my fucking nerves.

This is one of the reasons I'm not keen on the relationship (in a romantic sense).

Agreed about the behavior of many Southern women. Though I am thoroughly impressed with my grandmother's ability to say the most scathing things in the sweetest, most polite way possible, in general I find the demure, sugary sweet personality to be irritating bc it is so false for so many of these women. They're conforming to this idea of women who should be seen and not heard, and it's an unfortunate stereotype that I've found is too often true to life.

Of course, I've been lucky enough to have found several fabulous girlfriends who, as a reaction to this stereotype, are about the coolest, most honest, thoughtful and progressive people I've ever met. :)

Hmmmmm, I've only heard one incident of that happening in RL (probably happened loads more times though).
A woman in England fell in love with and married her dead husband's brother.

Yes, Kara and Zak were engaged. Check out "Act of Contrition" from season 1 for the back story. It also happens to be my absolute favorite episode still.

It's been a long time since I saw that ep, I'd forgotten about the engagement, I haven't seen it since it first aired on Sky One. I do remember the pilots riding around on the engine (at least I think that was what it was) and getting themselves killed

I also love that episode. It does a good job of establishing Adama's relationship with Kara (he's basically her father).
