I don't remember where he said it, but he was pretty much going to be the big death for Infinite Crisis (pretty much why he was trying to tie up the whole thing with Oracle and along with trying to tie up everything else). Then the comic book community went all RAAAAAGE! because practically everyone loves Dick ♥ (I love the innuendo in saying that).

Then it became a joke that Didio hates Nightwing (he doesn't). But like I said, Dick's book was really bad for awhile, so Didio probably thought it was a mercy killing or something.
