I was born in the mid-80's, so I have no real memory of it.

I get nostalgic for the 90's though. Not because I want to go back, but because certain things (songs, theme tunes, fashion, being reminded of weird fads, foods, tv shows, etc) make me remember that time.

The fun thing is, nostalgia doesn't only hit you with stuff you liked. I get nostalgic for that period (my late childhood) when I hear songs I DIDN'T like, but have memories attached to.

Nostalgia isn't being wistful about something you necessarily like. It's just something that gives you a Feeling and takes you back to times gone.

I can see why people might get nostalgic for the 80s, even if it was a shit time.

There was a sort of sweet take on this in The Cleaner (the episode is “The Influencer”).

A 50ish guy trying to kindly explain to a Gen Z kid that yes, there was some great stuff in the 80s, but also some terrible stuff. Pretty much like today.

Greg Davies' new show The Cleaner? Did that already air multiple episodes? For some reason I thought it hadn't launched yet. Is it good? I like the concept of the show and I like Greg Davies as a comedian and on Taskmaster, but sadly never really cared much for the TV shows he's been on.

Not sure about actual TV broadcasts, but the first series is all on BBC iPlayer.

I thought it was nice. I feel similar to you about Greg. The character is a little familiar from other Greg Davies shows (like Man Down), but I liked this more. It feels sweeter and has more earnest moments, some of which were really touching.

Each episode is quite separate. They all have weird/surreal aspects, but the first episode is the weirdest. So if you try it and it seems too weird for you, it might be worth trying another episode.

Late 70s kid here. I'm with you on the 90s nostalgia. Mostly it's about the music, like all the eurodance, but mid- to late 90s was my upper secondary education and my first job after graduating and all the clubbing I did with friends while our town still had a nightlife.
