Sometimes some of those secrets don't get made and that's the only discussion that there is about it.

I just wanted to interject - if a secret doesn't get made and it was a comment left on one of MY "Secrets you don't want to make" thread, then it was likely a mistake and I'd like to know about it so I can rectify that.

Thanks for your hard work, secret maker anon!

Then you're someone I can ask!

I've thought about making a secret, and gone back to the original profile on LJ to see how to do it, and it seems like people are (or were) supposed to make their own secrets. But then I see folks thanking secret-makers for their work, and I'm confused. Are we supposed to make our own, or do we leave it to a secret-maker, or is it whichever we choose?

Do you have any suggestions or advice? Thank you so much.

NAYRT

As far as I know, it's whatever you choose. Generally people make their own secrets, but the secret maker kindly offers to make other people's secrets.

If you have questions about tips for making secrets, maybe try starting a thread in General Comments. People have done that in the past to get recommendations about image editing programs or other tricks.

AYRT

Thank you; I've never read the general comments threads, so didn't know.

I'll give that a try in a day or two; it's midnight here, and my eyelids are drooping.

Whichever you choose! Some people make their own secrets, but others don't have the time. I've been a longtime (mostly) lurker on this community for years and traffic had been going down so I decided to start posting threads in the General Comments for people who had a secret, but for whatever reason weren't going to make them. Then I went through and made and submitted them. It helps keep the community active, more secrets are submitted and posted and people generally seem happy with this.

If you're interested in making your own secrets, here's what I generally do. (Mind you, I'm no expert, this is just what's easiest for me.)

1) Use Google Image Search, then filter by size to find a large enough image.
2) Upload it to a free online editor. I use:

http://www.befunky.com
http://picfont.com

3) From there, you can crop/resize it (750 by 750 is the maximum size) if needed and add text, then save it to your computer.
4) Then the secret is uploaded to http://www.imgur.com and the URL is submitted to that week's secret submission post.

Sorry I didn't see this until late, but feel free to post in the General Comments if you have any questions!

AYRT -- late coming back, but maybe you'll see this.

Thank you for the information. I was okay until imgur; I can barely manage to view images there; not sure about uploading.

I guess I'll go hang out in general comments for a couple of days and see what's what. <g> My maybe-secret is neither profound nor important; it's just a little niggling thing that has bugged me at a low level for several years. <shrug> I'll set it free one of these days, but no rush.

Thanks again.
