Yeah this is currently happening in my fandom where a good 3/4th of the people I'm following have suddenly turned into Undertale and Deltarune fans, and my non-gaming self just can't relate.

Ah, I know that feeling all too well and I think it's happening in my current fandom because activity's down and I'm not seeing as many fanworks being posted. Oh well. C'est la vie and all that.

Oof, I felt that hard. I feel sad when friends I'd made in fandom go somewhere else, or I go somewhere else, and neither of us feels compelled to follow the other. But that's just how it goes sometimes, I guess.

I know EXACTLY how you feel! I was obsessed with Paul Dano in 2016/17 and it broke my heart when our vocal little fandom dissipated. Likewise the Jeeves fandom. I came into that in 2017 when it was still active and it's definitely slower. "Stay here!" I want to yell at members who've defected, particularly if it's someone I enjoy interacting with.

Unfortunately this is the way of things, it doesn't mean it's not sucky when fan interest starts to die down, but it's inevitable in some manner even if it takes years for the drop to happen. Certain fandoms have only been going for so long because there's been a constant flood of canon(MCU as example, or any long-running TV show)), but if it's a short series, or a one-and-done, you'll see the drop off happen faster.

I'm always more than a little sad when this happens, because I seem to need a certain number of other fans into discussing and making fanworks for a fandom to stay obsessed myself, and I've only really hyperfixated on two canons in almost thirty years. The first will probably chug along okay so long as new adaptations come out every 10-20 years, but the second is a tv show that ended a few years ago.

I need a new media hyperfixation, but haven't found one--or rather, none have found me. I have non fandom hobbies, but they're not the same.

Okay, I did some googling about the Own Voices topic, and I get the basic gist now. I have no comment on that, but I do kinda get IN THE MOST BASIC FORM where the folks saying that it has a slightly racist tone to it. I don't know if I would agree that the author went out to do that on purpose, because I'm the sort of person who'd probably make the same sort of mistake. I like werewolves, and I wouldn't mind giving a minority character a chance to be a werewolf (I am a minority myself).

But apparently according to the podcast Metis in Space which is hosted by two First Nations professors, Native Americans getting stereotyped in various forms as being more in touch with nature, to even in more negative forms being considered more inherently animalistic in comparison to white people is a story trope that pops up a lot. Whether this is a worthy of controversy or just people on twitter being people on twitter is something that I really struggle to say. I can only shrug my shoulders, hope the book is good and worth reading, and doesn't wind up being responsible for a domino effect of people being way too crass and veers off into "Native Americans aren't completely human!" in future fiction stories down the line.

I wanted to like the Lone Gunmen spinoff, but... I think wouldn't have minded it being a little more serious. Not like, a lot. But I wish the show had focused more on them than the goofy sidekick or even the hot female spy lady.
