I wanted to like the Lone Gunmen spinoff, but... I think wouldn't have minded it being a little more serious. Not like, a lot. But I wish the show had focused more on them than the goofy sidekick or even the hot female spy lady.

I was so excited for the spinoff and then they show up with hot female spy lady. Like, way to ruin a great premise with a boring trope of a character.

I don't think it worked well as a spinoff in the end but I loved the Lone Gunmen and was so mad when XFiles killed them off. Only to retcon it somehow. So, so mad.

I think it could've worked if handled better, but I feel like it was based on a flawed decision in the first place... that the original Gunmen couldn't carry the show without a hot male and female character. I don't agree. What I wish they'd done was to focus on the LGs themselves, with Mulder and Scully as satellite supporting characters offscreen, with the occasional cameo. I would've loved to see what they got up to when they weren't interacting with Mulder and Scully.

da - this bothered me, too! I thought that it’d follow the lead of Unusual Suspects/Three of a Kind and Byers would become the main viewpoint character, but that it would also continue delving into how they bounce off each other and the agents. The new characters made their dynamics feel more generic.
