Because 99% of the time, "this is historically inaccurate" is code for "this has black people in it." The 1% of the time that someone is complaining about, idk, tomatoes in a region they weren't imported to until hundreds of years later, people tend to join in at laughing at how inaccurate it is.

In video games, sure. In other media, at least in my circles, it tends to be more along the lines of "Mary Stuart and Elizabeth I never fucking met irl, and that's actually a very important fact, and the movie makers having them meet makes no damn sense including for story reasons."
