A friend of mine was murdered (some years ago) and these were exactly the cliches used by people who didn't know her very well and just wanted to talk about how shocked they were. People who knew her talked about things she actually did or wanted to do, like she raised money for digging wells in African villages and wanted to work in global aid, she loved rollerblading but was terrible at it, and she was really funny but in a deadpan way so you'd have to think for a minute if she really said that.

So it makes me think anyone saying those things is just feeling close to the event of her death, not actually to her.
