104. Eh. Whedon tries, but he fails a lot, too. I think he could do with an education in academic feminism, because while he has some of the right ideas, he sure could use having a few myths put to bed, too. (ZOMG PROSTITUTION IS EMPOWERING!!!!11)

163. Okay I'm pretty active in the megaten fandom and now I'm curious ;3. I know quite a few fans who haven't finished that game due to 'scratched disks' and other such why not buy a new one excuses - perhaps you are one of these, anon?

It's a challenging game, for sure, but that's part of the fun. When you beat it you feel like you've actually accomplished something as opposed to the all-too-common RPG 'extended cutscene with occasional presses of the X button'. Besides, if you've played other megaten games before you should have an easier time of it - the power-ups are your friends/exploit weaknesses strats are the same in Nocturne, too. It was my first Atlus game and boooooy did it ever kick my ass down the stairs for a while. Playing it for a second time with more SMT experience has changed everything.

Also, feel free to ask for tips, anon. It's the best game in the SMT series to date, and it's a shame you haven't beaten it. I will help!

Prostitution isn't necessarily degrading, you know.

No it isn't necessarily degrading, which is why I didn't say that ;3

Some women do find prostitution to be empowering.

Individual experience =/= social phenomenon as a whole.

Re: 104

social phenomenon is just a fancy word for prejudice

Er... no. No it's not.

why not buy a new one

Because it's so damn hard to find, maybe?

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2009-02-28 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Is that why there's 50 of them up on eBay and even more on Amazon?

[identity profile] rmarques.livejournal.com 2009-02-28 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
And still plenty in play-asia.

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2009-02-28 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
And one hard copy available in the vast majority of Gamestops using their handy store locator/game availability function.

Heck, there's one in the EB across the street from my house.

You know I don't think his views of "prostitution" as empowerment were so until after he met Kai, who I suspect used to be a porn actress...

but this is pure speculation.

Also, there's a big difference between a prostitute and a call-girl. Perhaps yours is the mind that needs opening.

Or you could toss it off to 'they're all crazy in California', but the other misjudgments need to stop. :(

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2009-02-28 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's true, no prostitutes are ever forced into the trade due to poverty or circumstance, and no one ever takes advantage of them. I'm pretty sure they all make money hand over fist and if their clients get out of hand, they get a Matrix-style roundhouse kick to the nads. That and it has nothing to do with the drug trade.

*facepalm*

[identity profile] pack1ife.livejournal.com 2009-02-28 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
prostitute=/=call girl

google is your friend

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2009-02-28 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
You honestly don't think I know the definition of call girl? You are aware that in my comments I mentioned prostitution as a whole, right?

I suppose reading comprehension is also your friend.

[identity profile] pack1ife.livejournal.com 2009-02-28 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you link the two. Nice to know.

I don't generally assume people are bigoted. Just misinformed.

Sorry for coming across as an insufferable know-it-all.

G'bye.

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2009-02-28 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
I link the two as part of the social phenomenon of prostitution which they, well, are. (On the topic of friendly helpful websites, so is dictionary.com - there you might find that the 'social phenomenon' I am referring to is the buying and selling of sexual services.)

Thank you for attempting to educate me on the internets, I suppose, but sadly my 'bigotry' (which I guess is a fancy word for differing viewpoint) is founded in statistics and facts :/

Y-y-yes, maybe.

Everything you're saying is true, yes, and maybe eventually I'll work up the perseverance to get through it, but - it just hits my frustration quotient in completely the wrong spot. I mean, for something like DDS, I never had to grind - just pick out the right set of abilities and voila. You can even void all your elemental weaknesses, easy-peasy! SMT1 was nothing but grind, just level level level and strategy what strategy? Nocturne is the perfect intersection of those two styles, meeting in this horrible merge of YOU NEED MOAR LEVELS and THINK MOAR and HAVE ANOTHER MAZE WITH DAMAGE FLOORS AND PITFALLS AND ALL THE WRONG DEMONS.

Also, I've never lied about the fact that my copy is defective and the load time is ridiculous compared to the old copy I used to have. Sometimes it just hangs, too. >_> It makes it way more frustrating.

...also I should never have picked hard mode, but I'm too far in to want to start over again. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW sob sob bawww.
