This. It kills me that so many people seem to have missed this point entirely, that Penny's death was meant to indicate that having these men around was what ended her life, not fulfilled it, thereby subverting the stereotypical role of a female love interest wherein the woman falls in love with the hero and needs her to rescue him from the bad guy. Penny had found her purpose helping the homeless before either men arrived; she had never needed them and Dr. Horrible's intervention was what led to her death when it was obvious she had been about to dump (or "rescue" herself from) Captain Hammer all on her own without anyone's help.

I was suprised how many people just *didn't* get that! I would've thought by now that people watching Joss' stuff would've learnt the *read between the lines!!!*
