Got my cat's ingrown nails cut. It was a much easier process than I thought. He was actually really calm about it.

Exhausting. Emerge department has 40+ people in it so they decided to open up a closed unit and once again we were the last to know so I had to drive from one site to the other to restock and set up. :|

I picked up my new keyboard from the mail! It's a ten-key-less one. I'm hoping that the smaller size will help out my carpal tunnel and shoulder pain. I'm all about the ergonomics these days.

I've had an intermittent sore throat the last few days, and I would panic about COVID but I'm vaccinated, wear a mask everywhere, and also have itchy eyes. I think I'm allergic to something. It's annoying.

Better than yesterday but not really great either. Hopefully tomorrow will be... well, NOT disastrous. I put in for some time off next week but I might have to cancel that request if I don't get an approval soon (not that they wouldn't let me take it, but I don't like leaving little to no notice to folks who have to fill in for me).

Nothing much has happened today so I'll talk about yesterday - I had a practice interview with a guy from my job agency. It was very stressful, but he was really nice and explained things and - best of all - told me that if I felt this job would be too much for me (it's in a call centre and I have anxiety), that I shouldn't take it.
We chatted for a bit about his last job, which was basically call centre work for a major airline, and how during last year it just got too stressful for him and he had to change careers.

The bad: Tried to bang out a form for a work meeting tomorrow and it took longer than I expected due to the tool I'm expected to use being HORRIBLE at formatting text (or rather, NOT formatting plain text), so I was working from 7am right up until 5pm. Also my guts are really not liking anything I try to swallow for the last couple weeks and I'm painfully dehydrated.

The good: Tiny cute frog is still hanging out in my rose of sharon bush (I went out and said hi to it a couple times today), my lunch hour coincided with Pokemon Go raid hour in the Netherlands so I helped some guys out and got a shiny Mesprit, and the reason I woke up early enough to log into work at 7am was actually so I could see fog in Animal Crossing. I didn't know fog happened until a saw a screenshot about a week ago, and trying to figure out why I'd never seen fog on my island led me to MeteoNook, which let me predict that I'd have fog at 7am this morning. (And a meteor shower tomorrow night, if anyone wants in I'll post a code. ;))

Reasonable.
I went outside for lunch and had umpteen wasps fail to eat my food before I did. After that, I went to a farmer's market to browse. I got some shopping done and talked to my mom about maybe trading in her iPad for a new one.

How often do you change handles?

Do you change them with fandoms? With time? Do you stick with one -- it's your one true byline? Why or why not?

I'm about to ask for a commission on a different fic platform (I'm usually on AO3), and I don't know if I should keep the same handle for my request as when I initially contacted the author or if I should change it up again. Thoughts?


(I change handles like I change my socks. I can count right now, over my multi-fandom history and varied platform usage -- from forums to archives -- I've gone through at least seven handles. At least! I guess I get paranoid/I like to keep things separate? Worst case, I just get an additional handle for the new platform post request, keeping the original AO3 handle do the author recognizes me...)

Never. Partly because I can't be bothered, partly because I don't want to struggle to remember my own account name, and partly because I fucking hate when people on Tumblr change their user handle and break any links to their blog.

I had one name for when I first started out in fandom. Then I switched to my current one in 2005 and there I've stayed. tbh I consider it one of my names at this point. It's me. I wouldn't even know where to begin with picking a new name to go by at this point and I don't want to.

I'll change handles if I'm entering a new community and want to keep my other online identities separate. So like, my chess website name is different from my fanfiction website name.

But outside of that I never change handles. I'm completely awful at coming up with handles, and if I find one that I deem acceptable, I stick with it as long as possible.

I don't.

I can't be bothered with memorizing a dozen different nicknames, and I don't care if people understand that I can actually participate in more than one fandom.

Also, I never ever understood why some people get paranoid/uneasy about one fandom knowing that they are involved with another fandom. I might need an explanation.

Been in fic-writing/reading fandom 20 years and I've never changed it. All my stuff is under it. Simpler and easier to remember that way.

As little as possible. I'd still have the username I signed up with my first (small locally owned) ISP with back in the mid-90s if it hadn't been taken in enough places after awhile that I was forced to switch. It's still my listed username on ff.net, and I still have some friends from the IRC days who call me an abridged nickname of that username, and some who call me by a similar variation of my LJ username.

I think the only time I voluntarily switched handles was when I went from LJ to DW, because I wanted to get away from using the name of an existing character, no matter how much I like the fandom in question. And that took me a couple years before I decided on one I liked enough to keep. I hate naming throwaway characters in stories, it's even worse trying to come up with a (user)name for a real person.

But I also have a separate username I use for stuff my family might be interested in, like one of my YouTube channels, Pokemon Go, Animal Crossing. "pantswarrior" is obviously someone completely different who is into all kinds of weird sketchy stuff. ;)

I've been Tabaqui since I came into fandom in 2003 and I'll be Tabaqui 'til I die at my desk. (Or at the bottom of the basement stairs, in a heap of laundry, tripped and killed by my stupid, stupid, stupid cats.)
