I love the book and was massively disappointed by the sequel but I don't have a community of other book fans to talk to and I'm not about to barge into movie fans' conversations to bum them out.

The book is so weird and original and crazy and the movie has like the bones of the book with 3 inches of Miyazaki's clay over the top. He's great, his stuff is great, but I wish he'd just made another original story.

I would say that the sequel is pretty good, but disappointingly not much about Howl and Sophie, and the third book is dire - by comparison to what came before it. It's quite a cute story if you hadn't, yet again, set your heart on hearing more about Howl and Sophie. Especially since Sophie seems to have gotten a bit boring and ordinary since giving birth in the snippets we see.

Sorry, I meant to say by the movie and/or adaptation.
