I say this with Kylo as my very favorite SW character* ever, but...he's a little tantrum-throwing emo bitch.

*I adore Kylo Ren. I have t-shirts, a notebook, action figures, I have a silver ring that says LET THE PAST DIE, lol.

+1 (except I don't have all that stuff lol)

Just like his granddaddy

(Also enjoy Kylo, unironically love Hayden's Anakin)

I would agree but I find that wording very infantilizing and don't think we should talk about adults who do real harm to others as if they're children kicking and screaming at the floor. Mostly for the reason that it influences the way we see real people who are like that.

As someone who's not in a fandom, could you explain? What adults and what did they do?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-01 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
How did it influence his characterization?

OP

Not in canon, but a lot of Kylo portrayals in fanon kind of went between him being a whiny pissbaby (which he is, but there's more to the character than that) and a sleazy incel, which I kind of attribute to The Force Awakens coming out in 2015-2016.

Emo Kylo was satire, and not bad satire - I just didn't find it all that funny or original as a take on the character, and the jokes kind of predictable - of course he likes every "red-flag" movie or book under the sun.

I'm pretty sure that the version of Kylo Ren that's annoying you is just the version written by people who only watched the movies and didn't feel the need to read a bunch of supplemental material in order to get all character development that didn't make the final cut. Movie Kylo's an emo bitch who likes tantrums, genocide, and negging Force-sensitive orphans. The fact that you're not getting a deeper, more-nuanced Kylo is more likely due to writers not reading the tie-in novels than them all following the same joke twitter.
