20 to 30 chapters is a whole damn lot and while that might be happening in big fandom, I believe that going on for that long needs a lot of careful plot planning and everything - and that sounds like so much work, that the author can put the effort into publishing a novel as well. A lot of published works don't even have 20 chapters and if this is about fandom, I wonder if it's possible to even have such a good writing style, that it would keep people reading. Some smut in between lightens up the mood imo if it's such a long story.

I mean, I understand this because most of the time I'm in the mood for some nice fluff, but what's so hard about filtering out smut when you're in the mood for fluff? Or is it that you want that drawn-out fluff to end with some sexytimes that isn't smut, but more like sexy fluff? 'Cause I so get it if that's the case.

It gets old hearing that sentiment about fandom, once a safe space for sex to be explored in fiction, especially these days as more and more sites no longer host explicit content.

... I mean, I generally read fic for stuff I don't get out of the canon itself, and smut is the most likely to be "things we didn't get to see in canon." I've seen my ships interact loads in canon. I know how they act around each other in front of other people. What I want to see is how they act in the kind of intimate situations that we DON'T see in canon.

I'm not into fluff, and I'm very into smut, but I still totally feel this secret. My thing is that I want a truly immense amount of build up and development and delayed gratification before my ship gets together. Honestly the more build up the better, IMO.

I still enjoy shorter fics where the build up is very condensed, but pure PWP just isn't my scene, and I will never love anything as much as I love angsty, intense fics that are full of UST and that really make me wait for it.

There's a dearth of them in my current fandom and it hurtsss.

I feel ya. Slow burn or bust. I don't find down-and-dirty, PWP, fucking-on-every-surface-in-the-house-with-no-lube appealing at all.

Eh, I think I get what you mean between the secret itself and comments below, and I relate. I don't object to sex in fic, and I don't have any objection to smutty one-shots existing, I just... wish there were more stories in my fandoms nowadays where there was more than that. (Personally I find reading about sex approximately as interesting as reading, say, reviews of new cars on the market. Not relatable to me, not desirable to me, and thus not interesting to me unless there's something really, really weird being described.)

So a long drawn-out story where there are sex scenes every few chapters, that's great as long as the rest of the plot is also good. I'll take a pass on pure smut though, unless it's a pairing I'm really invested in and really want ANY content for (which is exactly one pairing these days). But that's fine, there are plenty of other fans to give the smut some appreciation. ;)

(And yessss to all the slow burn. If I don't already ship it, MAKE ME BELIEVE it can be shipped and I'm there for it. :D It's what I tend to write too - and how I learned to like Kirk/Spock, when I wrote a lengthy story on request and went "okay yeah, actually I can ship this".)

Anyone who thinks Richard Ayoade should play the Doctor fundamentally doesn't understand who the character is. (Or knows something about Richard's acting abilities that he hasn't yet shown on screen.)

The Doctor isn't just a quirky nerd. Yes, each incarnation changes, but some things should be at the core... compassion, wisdom, curiosity. And I don't think Richard can deliver that. Plus, I'd really like the next doctor to be less socially awkward.

1) Bruce Banner is a fan of the film Miller's Crossing (because he once uses the phrase "what's the rumpus?" in Age of Ultron)
2) "So-and-so went to school in Westchester" is a euphemism for being a mutant (because that's where Xavier's school is)

I'm with you, OP. All my friends who watch Doctor Who are thrilled RTD's coming back, but I'm pretty meh about it and I'd be the same way if it was Moffat who was coming back. I just don't care about the showrunner as long as the episodes entertain me and all the showrunners have had good episodes and bad ones.
