Pretty sure that’s quite common for cooking shows (just watching and not actually cooking any of the recipes).

But what kind of recipe for grilled cheese could there even be?

He uses fancy cheese, I guess?

Well, if you’re actually interested, I learned about mixing cheeses! I’m a big fan of sharp, aged cheddars, which don’t melt very well. But if you blitz them up with a little of something like Brie (and an optional dash of white wine), you get a delicious cheese that also melts well.

A friend sent me an email with recipes for 4 grilled-cheese variations. (She knows I like grilled cheese.) Unfortunately, they're all more work than I want to tackle -- a mixture of cheeses and other ingredients. Also unfortunately, I'm also a stuck-in-a-rut traditionalist; simple bread, butter, and sharp cheddar, please. But! They certainly sounded interesting, for more adventurous palates than mine.

<shrug> Before her email, I'd have echoed your "what kind of recipe for grilled cheese could there be?" question. Turns out, more than I thought -- and probably even more than those.

A lot of people on the cooking subreddits love this guy, and maybe this is unfair but that makes me wary. Not that the videos I've seen were bad, per se, just... a little bro-y? Which is probably why so many guys on reddit like him.

I get why you’d be wary, but I’m very put-off by “bros” and I like him. He’s actually quite sweet.

Ah, thanks, that helps. I admit, I was worried I'd get into it and then end up in some Joe Rogan-ish rabbithole when I least expected it.

That'd be hard to do considering the Babish format where you don't even see his face and he hardly ever talks about anything outside of the recipe?

I was wary for awhile too, but Babish is quite sweet! He pushes back on toxic masculinity in small, but positive ways.

His videos are ok when he does pop culture stuff but whenever he tries to educate his viewers it just fails miserably and just shows that he's only cooking as a hobby. Like, it's fine not to have a fancy degree but stop acting like an authority on cooking just because you know how to edit a video.

I watch the "Dinner Party" for The Office all the time because I can never make that even though I want to. It's so time consuming.

I've made some of the stuff he's made. I make the garlic and olive oil pasta from "Chef" all the time. It's really easy to make. I also generally pick up on tips he's done in my general every day cooking. Seeing him improvise in his videos has inspired me to improvise too. It makes cooking really fun.

It's like 2am where I'm at and now I desperately want to make a grilled sandwich.
