I don't think it's that judgemental, that's a very basic thing to get right. I think in some cases (like manga that only exists in fan translations for example) there might not be an established spelling, but if there is one? It's not hard to use it.

This is where I might give a pass, especially if it comes down to the old 'L/R' debate when it comes to fan translations.
