AUTUMN!

(Anonymous) 2021-10-05 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Like a lot of people I didn't want to let go of summer this year. Between not having the awesome post-pandemic summer we expected and the warm weather lingering on, I refused to acknowledge fall was happening the whole month of September. But this weekend a switch flipped and even though the weather will be rather summery at least the rest of the week, I am ready for fall BRING ON THE PUMPKIN SPICE!!

'pumpkin patch harvest 2021' is a fun and relaxing YouTube rabbit hole with more videos being added every day or so. Just as it sounds, people farming or touring pumpkin patches.

I'm sad, because I apparently missed the one year that Starbuck's pumpkin spice mix was vegan, and therefore wouldn't cause me pain :( so I still can't try it

(aka: even if you get a soy milk pumpkin spice latte, the mix itself still has milk in it. So it still affects those who react badly to milk)

I am so ready for Autumn. Supposedly we get a bit more of one here in Dallas than in San Antonio. We'll see. The weather the past few weeks certainly has been cooler at least at the start of the day.

Autumn is my favorite season. I love everything about it.

I'm the opposite. I've been wishing summer would fuck off since even during the end of July. It's the beginning of October and the temps are still in the 80s and I hate it and all the bugs it continues to bring.

Er, I don't mean to bring the mood down, I actually am all for autumn and can't wait for winter.

All of this! I hate summer more and more every year, and can’t wait for autumn weather to truly kick in!

And then I love winter too, and an fine with spring. But summer? I’m always counting the days until it’s over.

Either way, Yay Pumpkin spice season!

I prefer fall to summer so long as fall brings rain and cool temps and not santa anas, two more months of scorching dryness, and wildfire infernos. We just had two days of misery and now are having a pretty awesome thunderstorm, but we're only getting little sprinkles of rain.

I love soup weather and planting bulbs and fall/winter veggies and sweet peas.

I fucking love autumn. Nothing brings joy to my soul like seeing all the honour system pumpkin/corn stands.

You know, I can't decide on a favorite season because every time it starts getting towards the end of one, I find myself looking forward to the next one.

Me in February: Okay I'm tired of freezing my butt off. Grass and flowers! Yeaaaaahhh!
Me in May: Okay it's ALMOST warm enough I can go out and walk barefoot in creeks and lakes. Come on, just a little more!
Me in August: I am SO DONE with mosquitos. Also, leeeeeaaaves. Can we have fall now?
Me in November: Ugh if it's going to be below 45 I want snow. None of this "cold and dead" crap. Make it pretty!

Eye update (medical tw also vomit and bees)

(Anonymous) 2021-10-05 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
So this is bee sting eyelid anon, still with only one working eye. ER doc put me on prednisone and clindamycin because apparently ocular cellulitis is a thing (that I don't have but this is to prevent it because it's nasty.)

I've had cellulitis in my leg from an infected bee sting before and it sucked.

I threw up the first doses a couple minutes after leaving the hospital because they gave them to me on an empty stomach. I went home, brushed my teeth and showered, and went back to bed. Since I slept face down my eye got super puffy again; now that I'm up it's draining or circulating to the lower half of my face.

I look like a puffer fish as the venom works its way around. I bought some reusable gel ice packs and some plain eye drops because my lower eyelashes are kind of under my giant upper lid, so my eye keeps getting gummed up in addition to swollen.

I'm probably skipping work tomorrow if not the whole rest of the week, especially if the swelling doesn't go down. I have vet visits for two different cats Wednesday and Thursday and a follow up eye doctor appointment Thursday. I don't know how I'm getting to the eye doctor since the city still hasn't fixed the transit pass problem; I can walk to the vet, and to work if my eye works.

The rest of October better be fucking spectacular... and I hope I don't have to dig out my old pirate costume for Halloween.

I hope your eye improves, anon!

And that your October is leagues better than what just happened to you!

Also, why do you not want to be a pirate just got it lol. I always dress like a pirate, so I was gonna say! But what would you like to dress up for Halloween?

Re: Eye update (medical tw also vomit and bees)

(Anonymous) 2021-10-05 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT--pirates make for fun costumes, but if I still need to cover my eye in public at Halloween it's gonna suck. Also I can't wear the (fake, but not obviously so) sword and flintlock to work. And the costume is over a decade old so there's lots of stuff to fix before I'd wear it again.

I'll probably pull out one of my existing costumes this year and just fix small things that bug me; I have a couple of Christine from The Phantom of the Opera musical replicas, a finished Belle from Once Upon a Time costume and one that's almost done, the pirate costume, and an assortment of corsets, frilly dresses, sword belts, fairy wings, horns, masks, trench coats, and so on.

Do you wear the same pirate costume every year, or change things up?

Oof. Well, sounds that at least it hasn't gotten worse? Hoping things improve quickly for you, anon.

You probably should have re taken the thrown up medicines bc your system probably didnt take up any of them. :/ unless you got them as an IV.

I hope you feel better soon. Bee stings are a major paib

(Anonymous) 2021-10-05 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT-- TMI warning

...I thought of that, but I threw up in my mask so I couldn't go back inside, and the dose they gave me today was different than the follow up ones so I wouldn't know how much to take.

They had to have one med brought from a different hospital, I guess, because they were out, so idk if they had more than what they gave me. I'll ask at my followup appointment if I'll need to take an extra day's worth or anything.

Yeah I've been stung before, but never by my eye. I even got stung on the forehead once but because there's bone right underneath I got the stinger out right away and it barely swelled at all.

I'm still glad it wasn't my throat or my crotch tbh.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-05 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
bah I'm sorry to hear.
definitely ask at your follow up if you need an additional dose!

also maybe ask about which probiotic they recommend when taking clinda (oooor maybe ask at your go-to pharmacy, they should know as well), bc that stuff wrecks your giod gut bacteria :(

my godson has had a bad reaction to some insect bites near his eye and he wasnt able to open them at all this morning, poor boy. but luckily he only needs an antihistamine.

did you take pcp like you was told to

Re: Eye update (medical tw also vomit and bees)

(Anonymous) 2021-10-05 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I’m so sorry you’re going through this, anon! I hope you recover well soon! (And I cringed when I saw that you were prescribed prednisone! That stuff works eventually, but it’s side effects are some of the most sickening and misery-inducing of any meds I’ve ever taken!)

Re: Eye update (medical tw also vomit and bees)

(Anonymous) 2021-10-05 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT--my only previous experience with prednisone was after I got cellulitis in my leg from stepping on a bee. It was a higher dose and a longer course than my current one, and mostly I remember being (more of) a bitch. Also if I don't swallow fast enough it tastes foul. But I can kind of see out of both eyes after this morning's dose, so it's worth it.

I'm more worried about c-diff and plain old diarrhea from the clindamycin, tbh. I can't take penicillin or any related antibiotics because I get a whole body rash and hives from amoxicillin.
