The first Gen Xers reached their 20s in the 80s, it starts around 1965 or so. I totally agree that this "generational war" stuff is primarily kind of stupid, but there is a real Gen X aesthetic and it's very 80s and 90s (even if it was made by people slightly older at the time, as most pop culture generally is.)

I'm sorry, but this is complete hogwash. A real Gen X aesthetic my ass. At best I think you could say that many of us like pants that actually come up to our waists, but that's true of most humans.

OP of this thread

When I think of Gen-X aesthetic (which may have been arguably curated by those who were in fact older than Gen-X) I think of outfits worn by Aaliyah, TLC, 90s RnB artists, shows like Freaks and Geeks, Soul Train after my Saturday morning cartoons! (These were actual people!), and Fresh Prince, movies like Clueless, the Matrix, and the Craft; grunge and goth musicians/scene. I mean, these looks are the ones I think of when I think of the 90s. The oldest GenXers would have been young adults dressed similarly, no?

I mean, again, whether you dressed like this or not was likely dependant on where you were from, what culture surrounded you, money, etc. But every era definitely has a look.

I can vouch for this aesthetic, and you honestly nailed all of the fashion and pop culture influences.
