OP is almost certainly facetiously trying to give a backhanded compliment - joke's on them though because yes, there are definitely elements of intentional parody in this. It very much does not take itself too seriously and imo, that's why the humour works and the more melodramatic scenes have the potential to hit hard in the generally humorous tone.
The book is quite good considering the genre and the audience it's written for. It's fairly self-aware.
