but...but...surely there are spells to do this and no real-world muggle things needed? like, learning to become a metamorph? constant polyjuice? ffs if you're going to stick to the author, at least be canon-consistent!

But she's established that when you're taking polyjuice, you retain your gender, which is why Hermione is still she/her when she's polyjuiced into Harry. Also I hate that I know this ugh.

That's because those characters would have no actual character traits anymore if you took away their being trans like that. Because they're just gotchas.
