I see this less as someone who hasn't even tried other genres and more as someone who has found the one genre that will never blindside them with stuff they hate.

Agreed. I've read romance novels with some pretty heavy shit in them, but I always knew there was going to be a HEA, or at the very least, a HFN. There's no guarantee of that in basically any other genre.

Disclaimer before someone tells me to read another book: I read basically every genre out there. Romance is one of the safest.

That was my take on it, too. I don’t read romance novels and I gotta say that I can’t think of anything I’ve read in the last ten years that I would say had “wonderful, happy, sex-positive female characters” in it. Certainly each of those descriptors individually but rarely more than one and never all three. It actually wouldn’t make for interesting reading in the genres I read.
