which is why I think it can be said about YA too. "Oh, the crap that teenage GIRLS like."

and there are certain divisions of fantasy, like romantic fantasy, and some urban fantasy novels (Patricia Briggs and LKH and the like) that get looked down on b/c women LIKE them. Scifi has these divisions between Hard Sci Fi that's "Good" b/c it's scientific and "MEN" like it, and soft scifi that isn't as good b/c women like it and it's not so SCIENCE based. (it's all bull. I like Asimov well enough, he's just dry as a bone.)

Never forget the meltdown Jonathan Franzen had when Oprah Winfey wanted to feature The Corrections on her book club. Never mind the millions in sales the publicity would bring in, it would mean middle-class housewives who watch Oprah would be reading and discussing his book. The shame. The damage to his high-falutin' brand.
