Based on #6

Who was your first book crush?

If there was one before him, I can't recall, but 11 year old me was in love with the youth version of 007 aka Alex Ryder from Stormbreaker. I wanted him to be my boyfriend so bad lol (I also wanted to be cool like him but that's another issue).

Hmmm. Trying to remember. I think it was either Lucius Malfoy (I crushed on him before the movies came out, but the casting of Jason Isaacs only increased my attraction) or Gilbert Blythe from the Anne of Green Gables series.

My actual first fictional crush was Jafar. My villain thing started early.

let's face it, Disney baddies tend to have more interesting personalities than the heroes. Not always, but enough to notice a trend.

One of my very first memories is of having a crush on the yellow triceratops from Barney so hard I couldn't look at the screen. I'm sure I had Barney cardboard books too, so I'm counting it.

Hmm. If comic books count, Raphael. Yes, the turtle. (I should have gotten some idea I was asexual long ago when physical appearance or even species did not factor into my crushes AT ALL, hahah.)

If we're talking words-only books, I thought I had a crush on Raistlin Majere for awhile, but before long I realized it was more that I just related to him really hard due to also having a stupid broken body that kept me from reaching my potential.

Anne from the Famous Five books. I was super young.

Biggles. Decades later he's still a crush if I'm honest.

Was gifted a lot of Seseme Street/Muppets related books n' stuff as a kid and was oddly fixated on Oscar and Animal. Wouldn't learn until years later exactly why.

Lupin.

Little me was so disappointed when the series went on and we got to see very little of him at all... and then for some unfathomable reason Joanne hooked him up with Tonks and he died.

It's not been fifteen years and I'm not still salty.

I really liked the ship with him and Tonks, and in fact I shipped it before it showed up in the books. But what I didn't like was his characterization in book 7. He just felt so completely different from the character before. It felt like he'd become his teen self again with his running away from responsibilities and difficulty. The character had grown since his teenage self and had never been that way other than in the flashbacks. So why was he suddenly that guy again?

OP of the thread

Remus was my side thing lol I had a crush on Sirius when I got a bit older, and Remus and later Lucius (gotta catch'em all!), But I was super frustrated when he ran off when Tonks got pregnant. One the one hand, character regression, on the other, there's a lot of guys who freak out at the prospect of being a dad. But i was still mad-- okay Remus when you figure it the fuck out, come back and we'll talk like adults.

Am I a weirdo? I've never had a crush on a literary character. After I've seen an actor portray them in a movie, sure, like Olivier as Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights, but book characters are too two-dimensional for me.

I can't recall crushing on a literary character, either. I'm with you, seeing them in a film version makes doing that a lot easier for me, too.

nah, you're not a weirdo. I need visuals too. Book characters are people I want to be my best friends, my found family, my adventuring partners, people who are fun to hang out with and will protect each other in a situation.

Holden Caulfield was my first and only book crush. I know I know, problematic bro culture red flag if your date thinks he's cool etc. Anyway I'm not even sure it was really a crush because I didn't really think about kissing or banging him, I more just had an infatuation with wanting him to be happy that I haven't with any other book character.

I think I'm probably shallow and need visuals to crush on characters, which is why I've had so many from TV and movies but none from books.

Robin Hood was my first book crush.

Neatly sandwiched between my Spock obsession and the biggest ever need to be or be with the fourth Doctor, of Doctor Who fame.

Sara Crewe from A Little Princess I think.

I was enamoured by the descriptions of what she was like and how she told stories.

None, but I tried to convince myself I had a crush on Harry Potter for like a year. I even wrote "I <3 Harry" at the end of all my diary entries for pretty much the entirety of 2000, lol.

I did have a proxy crush on a few characters, like Andrew from the Kit Pearson book Looking At The Moon. The protagonist Norah had a passionate crush on him, and I shipped it, so yeah, proxy crush. I remember being super disappointed that her crush remained unrequited. But I just looked it up and he was 19, while she was 13. I now understand why they didn't get together.

It was probably Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables.

I think that was before I read It (at around 13/14), which had Bill Denbrough (my crush on him did gain intensity by Jonathan Brandis playing him in the miniseries not long after I read It for the first time).
