I enjoyed both Battlestar and Firefly. But I do tend to prefer scifi that has a bigger feel to it and explores different alien cultures and how they interact with humans. Cultural interactions is one of my favorite thing in media. And it is harder to get that in scifi if everyone is human. It can still happen, but it rarely does. And even then, I think exploring really alien cultures that are very different from any human culture and how humans would interact with other species is particularly enjoyable.
