I’m cautious about letting people know I visit here because of how oversensitive fandom is now and the bad reputation anonymous communities have in general from those who have never used them.
I used to post on 4chan’s /m/ board years ago because being a teenage female in mecha fandom wasn’t easy back then so it was a way for me to still interact and avoid harassment, not because I wanted to be a troll etc

Yeah, I still have a few friends who used to frequent F!S during its LJ days/early DW days. I purposely don't tell them that I come here still (always anon) in fears that they still come on here too or that they will start to come back and somehow be able to recognize me on here via my secrets or anon comments. LOL I think I'd stay quiet if any of them were to bring it up to me.

While having tons of fanworks is definitely better than none at all...
I find that I prefer it when there's not too many fics for my favorite characters/ships, because for some reason I feel "obliged" to check them all out.
It can quickly get overwhelming and burns me out on the given character/ship.

I have a similar problem with Sterek fic. It's such an enormous fandom that I know, I *know* there must be gems hidden in the lower ranked kudos fic. But I just don't have the energy to search for them, not in a fandom so large.

There’s a WIP fanfic I started reading in December 2019. I was enthralled. I couldn’t wait for more. I would whip out my phone wherever and whenever it updated. It’s now October 2021, and hoo boy… The shine has worn off. The updates have been pretty regular. The chapters are longer than ever, and instead of exciting me, I’m just gritting my teeth to get through them. Was the prose always this purple? Were the characters always this wangst-y? Did it actually get bad, or did I just stop enjoying it? Help!

Aliens fucking rule. The more aliens there are, and the weirder they are, the better. This is why space opera is the best kind of SF (or one reason, at least).

I will say, in the case of Firefly, it's probably just as well they only went with humans because none of the Traveller alien races are particularly interesting. I don't know how much the series would have benefited from dog people or lion people. But, still, the point is definitely true in general.
